As per the guidelines laid down by ADA, it is required d that companies or organizations that receive federal funding or fall under the category of a Federal entity ensure their website complies with the WCAG 2.1 standards. This protocol has been designed to provide guidance and ensure that websites are accessible to all users. While it may not be a mandatory requirement for all websites, it is a good practice to incorporate these standards as it makes the website more user-friendly and inclusive. Edgeview Creative strongly encourages all clients to maintain an ADA compliant website.

ADA Compliant Website

As a professional, and one of the disabled business owners, this is an important topic for me. Having an ADA compliant website, regardless of being a small business is both socially responsible and good for business. A website that adheres to the WCAG 2.1 standards, would enable businesses to provide access to all members of the community without inadvertently excluding potential clients. As an individual with an ADA recognized disability, following accessibility guidelines is of paramount importance to me. I am proud to report that my website achieved WCAG 2.1 compliance on July 9, 2023.

The Edgeview Creative website features a small dashboard on the bottom right of the screen that will allow users with accessibility issues to tailor their experience. The dashboard provided by accessiBe, has different options that can be toggled on and off. These adjustments can help provide a better interaction for people who suffer from seizures, vision impairment, ADHD, auditory impairments and more. This can be added to all websites and will help your business to present an ADA compliant website.

Statistics

Did you know that the National Disability Institute reports there are over 1.8 million disabled business owners? It’s true! While some disabilities may not be immediately apparent, both physical and mental disabilities can pose unique challenges when it comes to running a business. These challenges don’t necessarily have to hinder success. With the right resources, support, and accommodations, business owners with disabilities can effectively manage their businesses and achieve their goals. That’s why it’s important to raise awareness and foster a culture of inclusivity that supports individuals with disabilities in their entrepreneurial endeavors. Whether it’s through accessible technology, flexible work arrangements, or specialized training programs, there are many ways we can strive towards creating a more inclusive economy where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.
